Abstract

The concurrent consumption of alcohol and energy drinks (alcohol mixed with energy drinks AMED) has increased among young individuals, raising public health concerns. This study aimed to investigate the physiological and clinical effects of the association between alcohol and energy drinks through an integrative literature review conducted in PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases from 2020 to 2025. Evidence indicates that AMED consumption reduces subjective intoxication perception without improving cognitive or psychomotor performance, favoring risky behaviors. Additionally, cardiovascular alterations and neurobiological effects associated with this practice were reported. It is concluded that AMED represents a health risk, highlighting the need for preventive strategies.
