Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the importance of pharmaceutical guidance regarding the inappropriate use of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS), identifying the main risks and adverse effects, and demonstrating the role of pharmacists in health promotion and the rational use of these drugs. This integrative literature review used articles published between 2020 and 2022. A total of 162 articles were found, and 10 were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis of the studies shows that the use of AAS has become an increasingly common practice, driven by several factors in the pursuit of an ideal body. The risks of indiscriminate use are associated with metabolic alterations, especially highly serious cardiovascular disorders. The pharmacist, as a health agent, plays a central role in promoting rational use, providing risk guidance, monitoring dispensing, and reporting cases of abuse.
